Gorman Falls is one of the crown jewels of Colorado Bend State Park in Texas, offering visitors a stunning display of natural beauty.
The hike to Gorman Falls is approximately 3 miles round trip. The trail is rated as moderate due to uneven terrain and a steep, rocky descent near the falls. Sturdy shoes with good grip are highly recommended. Please pay attention as you hike to Gorman, during the spring, summer and fall you may encounter snakes on the trail as my daughter did on this particular trip.
The trail meanders through a semi-arid landscape, featuring rugged limestone, sparse vegetation, and cacti. The last portion requires a careful climb down using a cable for stability.
Along the way, you'll enjoy scenic views of the park's hills and valleys, with opportunities to spot local wildlife such as deer, lizards, and various birds.
Colorado Bend State Park spans over 5,300 acres and offers diverse outdoor activities, including hiking, caving, kayaking, and fishing along the Colorado River.

The falls create a cool, misty environment, making it a refreshing spot after the hike. However, swimming is not allowed to protect the delicate ecosystem.

Tips
- Visit in the spring or fall for cooler weather and vibrant surroundings.
- Bring plenty of water, as the trail has little shade.
- Be cautious during the descent to the falls and respect the natural environment. There is a steel cable to aid on the descent down to the base of the falls. Gorman flows into the Colorado River just below. After heavy rains the Colorado can swell and become very dangerous so be careful as you explore the area.
